Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet India

Editor's Note: This article was written and submitted by Tara Conry.
Name: India
Case Number: #7657

My name is India and I am a sweet, gentle lady. I love everyone, even the most unusual of strangers, and relish being petted and massaged.

I am currently living in with a great foster family, but need to find my forever home.

I am uncomfortable with some handling (paws, snout) and will need a patient adopter who will help me become more accepting of it. Due to my concerns about some handling, I may be more comfortable in a household of respectful tweens and up. I will readily share my food with people.

I tend to be stiff around other dogs and not playful. While I can tolerate them, I’d sooner have nothing to do with them. I am definitely a people-centric pooch.

I don't know any basic commands but I'm eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats! I am proud to say that I walk nicely on the leash, and training will help us forge a relationship.
I would be best in an experienced home with guardians who are familiar with the typical breed characteristics of a Rottweiler

If you are interested in adopting India, please contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220 and speak to Nancy, the adoption liaison.

The shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required inoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is working hard to assist the many dogs and cats that have entered the shelter as a result of their owners being displaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. As part of the shelter's Orphans of the Storm Pet Adoption program, all adoption fees are being waived from December 1, 2012 to January 19, 2013.
