Finding a Trainer

How to find a trainer that is right for you.

If all else fails and you feel you can’t succeed with your weight loss or health goals on your own, then maybe it’s time to find a personal trainer and/or nutritionist.

At some point we have to decide that our health comes above everything and if we need help, we should get it.

You have to ask yourself what your specific needs and goals are; what do you want in a trainer and how much can you afford. So what next?

After we have decided to get a trainer, we must figure out what we need to achieve our health goals. Is it nutritional advice, exercise routine based on our goals, our abilities, what we enjoy or all three? It would help to write down our specific needs, make a list and then we can decide what we want in a trainer.

We should seek someone who listens to what we need, understands our goals, has great ideas on how to reach them and who is enthusiastic about helping us. The trainer should be knowledgeable about nutrition, experienced enough to work around any medical issues or physical limitations, be willing to vary the workouts and pushes you beyond.

A trainer should be someone who cares about us and is interested in our desire to succeed. Sometimes the best trainers are people who have struggled with their own weight problems and they can relate better to you, your doubts because they have been there.

Now is the time to figure out what you can afford. When we get to a point in our journey where a trainer is our only option for success, the money issue shouldn’t be the first concern – our health should come first. There are trainers who do care and will work with you, as long as they know you are really ready to commit to becoming a healthier version of yourself. Even if you start at one time a week and do some other workouts in between, it helps to have someone to answer to or to ask questions or can show you other workout options for your health goals.

Now where do you find a perfect trainer for you? It could be by referral or word of mouth. If you’re a member of a gym, you can find qualified trainers there, or you can even search the Internet. Sometimes it might take some wrong choice to come up with the perfect match. Remember to find someone you’re comfortable with, trust and, above all, motivates you to be the best you can.

Sadly, this will be the end of my column. I have thoroughly enjoyed writing my articles for the past year and will miss giving my homegrown health tips to all. If you need any more advice on any health issues or need help on finding a personal trainer, you can contact me at  KICKBOXR@optonline.net. And thanks again for all your support!

Thank you for this wonderful article on a good man pushed to the brink. I appriciate the fact thisRead More came form the heart and did not hold back. As Sacristan at Cure of Ars, I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Rich (as I called him) for some time. He was a man of faith and a pleasure to see. Always with a smile and kind word, you would never know what was going on the way he acted. This was a wonderful and insightful article. It is heartbreaking to think that where there was once love between 2 people, things got to the point where one persons life was destroyed by those who could and did for no apparent reason other than having the ability to do so. God will have mercy on Dr. Rich and the ex-wife and "Judge" should pray for the same given their actions.
