Weather Alert: Big Storm Takes Aim on Long Island

Heavy rains, high winds and coastal flooding will turn Tuesday into a washout.

Get out the rain gear - Long Island is in for a wet one.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a large storm packed with lots of rain and winds to hit our area from Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Two storm fronts - one coming the from the east and another from the south - will converge over the Northeast and create one gigantic headache for commuters.

"Heavy rainfall with isolation flash flooding [and] local severe storms" could be expected, according to an outlook from the NWC. "The time of greatest impact looks to be from late afternoon Tuesday into the early morning hours Wednesday."

A High Wind Watch is effect due to the forecast of sustained winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 55 on Tuesday evening. Additionally there is a high Rip Current Risk in effect through Tuesday evening, bringing waves 4 to 6 feet high.

Minor coastal flooding and scattered power outages were also expected to be accompanying the storm, according to the outlook.

Specifically for the Bellmore-Merrick area, the NWC says:

A chance of showers before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 74. Windy, with a south wind 18 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible...[Tonight] Winds could gust as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

As Sacristan at Cure of Ars, I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Rich (as I called him) for some time. He was a man of faith and a pleasure to see. Always with a smile and kind word, you would never know what was going on the way he acted. This was a wonderful and insightful article. It is heartbreaking to think that where there was once love between 2 people, things got to the point where one persons life was destroyed by those who could and did for no apparent reason other than having the ability to do so. God will have mercy on Dr. Rich and the ex-wife and "Judge" should pray for the same given their actions.
