The following is from South Nassau Communities Hospital:

South Nassau Communities Hospital ophthalmologist Richard Nauheim, of Merrick, has been selected for inclusion in the 15th edition of Top Doctors: New York Metro Area.

Published by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., the acclaimed guide spotlights the top 10 percent of primary care and specialty care physicians in the tri-state New York area.

This is the second honor that Nauheim, chief of ophthalmology at South Nassau, has received in as many months. In September, he was named to the Consumers’ Research Council of America “Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists” for the third consecutive year.

Nauheim specializes in treating problems such as double vision, optic nerve disorders, visual/eye movement disorders, cataracts, diseases of the retina, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Nauheim is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University and medical degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine.

In 1984, Nauheim completed an internship at The Long Island College Hospital and residency training at Nassau University Medical Center in 1988. He completed a fellowship in cornea and external disease at the prestigious Eye & Ear Institute of Pittsburgh in 1989.

Nauheim is active in research, lecturing and publishing papers on ophthalmology and is on the teaching faculty at North Shore University Hospital and Nassau University Medical Center. He has presented at national and international institutions and meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New York Academy of Medicine. He has also been published in prestigious peer reviewed journals such as the Archives of Ophthalmology.

Doctors listed in its Top Doctors series of guides are selected after peer nomination, extensive research and careful review and screening. The Castle Connolly physician-led research team reviews criteria including the medical education, training, hospital appointments and disciplinary history of each nominee. Doctors do not and can not pay to be included in a Castle Connolly guide or list.

Thank you for this wonderful article on a good man pushed to the brink. I appriciate the fact thisRead More came form the heart and did not hold back. As Sacristan at Cure of Ars, I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Rich (as I called him) for some time. He was a man of faith and a pleasure to see. Always with a smile and kind word, you would never know what was going on the way he acted. This was a wonderful and insightful article. It is heartbreaking to think that where there was once love between 2 people, things got to the point where one persons life was destroyed by those who could and did for no apparent reason other than having the ability to do so. God will have mercy on Dr. Rich and the ex-wife and "Judge" should pray for the same given their actions.
