Merrick Native Cast on New Syfy Docu-Series

Kristin Hackett will appear on Syfy's "Fangasm," which will premiere on Tuesday.

Kristin Hackett, 26, has always had a love of comics and science fiction, so she is more than excited that she is a cast member of Syfy's new docu-series, "Fangasm."

The show, which premieres on Tuesday, features seven very different people who have obsessions with comic books, collectibles, science fiction, fantasy, cosplay and live action role playing.

Hackett said that being on the series was an amazing experience.

"Working on the show was absolutely wonderful," the Calhoun High School graduate said. "I would barely call it work. It was definitely an adjustment to have cameras around me 24/7, but after a week or so, I barely noticed they were around."

While on the show, she also got an opportunity to intern for Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo, Los Angeles’ largest pop-culture convention, with her castmates.

"It was a huge deal to me," she said. "Stan is one of my heroes and I can't believe I was able to meet him one-on-one and help plan his upcoming convention."

Before all the lights, cameras and action, Hackett was and still is a very busy woman.

She along with her best friend, Kristin Fowler, launched On Wednesdays We Wear Pink, a entertainment news site for women who love comics, sci-fi, fashion, baking, movies and television.

In 2012 she created her personal blog, Super Space Chick, as a way for readers to really get to know her as well as her passions.

She said that one of her next endeavors may be to delve into the fashion world.

"I would love to start a clothing line for women that incorporates my geeky interests," she said. "Most of the clothes available to women are basic T-shirts, so I'd love to design a line of dresses, skirts and leggings."

When asked what comic book character she most relates to, Hackett named a well-known superhero.

"Spider-Man was really revolutionary in the Marvel Universe," she said. "I love how Peter is just a normal high school science geek, but he totally puts aside his personal life so he can commit to helping other people."

"Fangasm" will premiere on Syfy on Tuesday at 10 p.m.
