Editor's Note: The following information was written and submitted by Joe Baker, the president of the South Merrick Community Civic Association.
The South Merrick Community Civic Association (SMCCA) is collecting donations of non-perishable foods and cleaning products for those in need as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.
These donations may be dropped off at the Town of Hempstead Merrick Golf Course clubhouse, which is located at 2550 Clubhouse Rd. in South Merrick between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The SMCCA Cares program volunteers will distribute these donations in the most needed area's most affected by the storm.
Please do not drop off clothing at the golf course clubhouse. Clothing donations, money and gift cards will be collected by calling Joe Baker at 978-8310.
