Sandy Relief Info to be Available in Merrick

New York State is partnering with Hempstead Town in offering Hurricane Sandy Relief information and programs to homeowners and small business owners at a state-operated Mobile Command Center in Merrick.

The Mobile unit will visit the Merrick Road Golf Course on Wednesday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

“I am pleased that the Governor has deployed state resources to bring information and assistance to local communities affected by Hurricane Sandy,” said Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. “Both business and homeowner help is on the way, and I want to thank Governor Cuomo for being proactive in the area of Sandy relief and recovery.”

The state will be bringing information on its “Small Business Storm Recovery Program.”  The program features loans and grants to businesses that sustained eligible uncompensated losses, including loss of working capital, as a direct result of Sandy.

The state will also be promoting its “Recreate NY Smart Home Program.”  New York State personnel will be prepared to assist homeowners whose houses were substantially damaged in Hurricane Sandy as they seek to recover, rebuild or relocate. Staff will have information and accept applications on the following programs:

  • Recreate NY Smart Home Program, providing assistance with home repair/rehabilitation, mitigation/elevation and/or buyouts.
  • Recreate NY Multifamily Housing Mitigation/Elevation Grant Program, assistance targeted to mitigation of affordable housing to elevate homes or key systems.
  • Recreate NY Smart Home Buyout Program, a voluntary program to assist homeowners who wish to leave their storm-damaged properties.
“I want to encourage homeowners and business owners to take advantage of this opportunity to access Sandy-relief information from New York State representatives,” Murray added. “Programs like this will help bring relief directly to Sandy-impacted communities.”
