Merrick Kiwanis to Show Free Movie for Sandy Victims

The Merrick Kiwanis Club will host a free showing of "Escape from Planet Earth" at Merrick Cinemas on Feb. 18, according to the Merrick Herald.

Doors will open at 9:30 a.m., and the film will begin at 10 a.m. Free soda and popcorn will also be provided, according to the article.

From the Merrick Herald: Advanced reservations are required. Email your name, town and number of people attending to kiwaniskim@gmail.com. The program is provided by Merrick Kiwanis with a grant received from the Kiwanis International Foundation.

According to IMDB, "the story takes place on planet Baab where admired astronaut Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) is a national hero to the blue alien population. A master of daring rescues, Scorch pulls off astonishing feats with the quiet aid of his nerdy brother, Gary (Rob Corddry), head of mission control at BASA."
