Since Hurricane Sandy struck, Newbridge Road Park has been a point of distribution center for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, a staff of 8-10 workers has been distributing food, water and supplies to area residents in need. They've been averaging about 75-80 cars per day.
"We’ll be here as long as they tell us," Kevin Sequeira, who's second in charge, said. "There’s no end at this point. It’s a day-by-day operation."
Town of Hempstead trucks have also been picking up supplies to go to areas of need, including Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh, Island Park and Lawrence.
Sequeira said it's hard for people to ask for help, but his staff is qualified to provide the necessary aid.
"It is very difficult for them obviously," he said. "But, the people that work here are very good. We walk over to their car and we help them out."
The location does have a limited amount of clothing, and they've been giving it to people that lost everything due to the storm.
The center is not accepting donations of clothing or toys, but they continue to encourage donations of non-perishable food items and water.
