Hurricane Sandy Workshop Draws Large Crowd in North Merrick

Hurricane Sandy victims were given the opportunity to address their concerns and ask questions to officials from recovery organizations.

Close to 100 people attended a Hurricane Sandy workshop hosted by Legislator Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, and Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy at the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Office on Tuesday.

Hurricane Sandy victims were given the opportunity to address their concerns and ask questions regarding building permit requirements, insurance issues and resources.

Officials from organizations such as FEMA, Project Hope, FEGS Hurricane Sandy Relief, Catholic Charities Diocese of Rockville Centre, the Town of Hempstead Building Department and the New York Rising Recovery Program were in attendance to answer all questions and aid residents.

Denenberg said that he was pleased with the turnout.

"If I can help people one at a time, 10 at a time or 100 at a time, I will keep doing it," he said. "My constituents who suffered great loses are entitled to relief and assistance and I am going to get it for them."
