Weekly Recap: Cat Saved from Fire, Man Hides Cocaine in Mouth

  1. Cat Rescued from Merrick House Fire: Firefighters rescued a cat from a basement fire on Buckingham Road in Merrick Friday afternoon. Nobody was injured during the blaze.
  2. UPDATE: Lost Bulldog Reunited with Family: A dog that was found in Bellmore Sunday has been reunited with his family, Patch has learned. This brown and white Bulldog wearing a faded orange collar was first spotted walking along Waltoffer Avenue, and then on Barbara Court, both in North Bellmore.
  3. Police: Bellmore Man Hid Cocaine in Mouth: A Bellmore man was arrested Tuesday morning after he was spotted acting erratically in North Bellmore.
  4. Merrick School Board Votes Against Security Hiring: While approving a measure that would provide a district-wide safety evaluation by a private security firm, the Merrick Board of Education (BOE) temporarily nixed the idea of hiring security personnel to patrol their schools until a possible later date.
  5. Goldstein Addresses Wee Friends Concerns: North Bellmore Superintendent Arnold Goldstein recently addressed community member’s concerns regarding the future of the property that was formerly occupied by Jacob Gunther Elementary School.
