Water for South Sudan Thanks Lakeside Students

The organization recognized students for their support in the drilling of 40 new water wells in Sudan.

Water For South Sudan recently thanked Lakeside Elementary School students for their support in the drilling of 40 new water wells in Sudan.

The organization also dedicated a well in honor of the students.

Water for South Sudan is a non-profit foundation based in Rochester, NY. Its mission is to drill wells which provide safe drinking water to people in south Sudanese villages.

A few years ago, after reading the book, "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park,  42 students in Suzan Molloy's sixth grade class decided that clean water was an urgent matter for South Sudan and that they wanted to help.

Students raised $5,000 in three months and since then each year Molloy has encouraged her students to get involved with raising money and awareness for people in places that have great needs.

In a letter to Molloy and the students, an official from Water for Sudan wrote:

"We are pleased to report that Water for South Sudan, Inc. has finished another successful drilling season, drilling 40 new wells this year. Thanks to you, and our many generous supporters, we have now drilled 177 wells since 2005. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our donors."
