Howard Kaden, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer will receive the Courage Award during Voices Against Brain Cancer's Run/Walk on Saturday.

Howard Kaden, a Merrick resident of 30 years, will be given the Courage Award during the Voices Against Brain Cancer's Third Annual Join the Voices Run/Walk in Central Park on Saturday.

Kaden, 51, was diagnosed with brain cancer in September and said that he has received a great amount of support from the organization and the Bellmore-Merrick community.

"It's been a wonderful outreach of the community since I have been diagnosed," he said. "It's really heartwarming."

After Kaden was diagnosed he joined forces with Voices Against Brain Cancer.

"It's been a very enlightening experience and they have been very informative," he said.

Voices Against Brain Cancer's mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by "advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients and their families."

Kaden said that he has began treatment, but he feels great.

"I am in a really good place physically and spiritually," he said. "I am going to make sure that I take care of me and support Voices Against Brain Cancer as much as I can."
