Special Needs Families Learn to Navigate Government Programs

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) and the Community Parent Center will host a free “Don’t Wait -- Learn to Navigate!” seminar for special needs students and their families on Monday at 8 p.m. at Merrick Avenue Middle School.

At this presentation, parents will get an overview of services offered by the Office for Persons With Developmental Disabilities, meet and get to know other parents who have children with special needs, receive guidance in applying for benefits and entitlements, learn how to navigate government special needs programs including SSI, Medicaid and Medicaid Waiver, get assistance in planning the transition from high school to college or employment and learn about additional parent workshops, teen leadership training and community service projects for those with special needs.
