Arrest After Bar Fight Outside Merrick Bar

A Farmingdale man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting another patron nearby Jugs & Strokers bar in Merrick, Nassau County Police reported.

According to police, James Fontana, 42, was running away from the Sunrise Highway bar when police arrived on the scene.

Further investigation determined that Fontana was involved in a verbal dispute with a 23-year-old male victim outside the bar. The defendant then reportedly struck the victim in the face with a beer bottle causing a deep laceration to the nose.

The victim was transported to an area hospital by private automobile where several stitches were required to close the wound, police reported.

Fontana was arrested near the scene and charged with Assault 1st Degree and Criminal Possession (B felony) of a Weapon 3rd Degree (D felony). He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.

According to the Nassau County District Attorney's office, Fontana is still charged with two felonies and is next due in court on April 11.
