April 20: Tell Us How You Really Feel, Earth Day Contest

Five things you need to know today.

1. Merrick Patch is looking for outspoken members of the community to share their thoughts about the school budget and school board elections leading up to the May 17 vote. If you have something to say, we’ve got the platform to make sure your voice is heard. To participate in writing columns, contact Emily.Cappiello@patch.com.

2. Chef Robert Kass is back for another teen cooking class at the Merrick Library. The class is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for those that registered. Merrick Patch is interested in what you cooked up, so send a few pictures (and maybe a recipe) to Emily.Cappiello@patch.com.

3. How many days until summer vacation? Well, with Jen Marx's new column, you won't have to worry since she will get you prepared ahead of time. See what she has in store for Merokeans this week in order to get in the mood for summer at 10 a.m.

4. Love animals? It doesn't matter what your age is, so if you want to get to know about a new species or just want to see a variety of animals without having to trek all the way to Queens or the Bronx, pull up a chair at the North Merrick Library at 7 p.m. for Green Meadows Farm live animal show.

5. What are you doing in honor of Earth Day this week? Tell Merrick Patch on Facebook and you could win a Patch prize!
