McDONOUGH TO HOST CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK

Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) and the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board will be conducting a child car seat safety check. The event will be held on Friday, June 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Curé of Ars Church, 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick.  Attendees are encouraged to use the Hewlett Avenue entrance, one block south of Sunrise Highway.

“A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study showed that seven out of ten children are improperly restrained,” said McDonough. “Unfortunately, too many parents and caregivers are unaware of the danger an improperly installed car seat can pose to their child. We must do all we can to prevent the loss of such precious lives. I encourage all parents to make an appointment to attend, and want to thank the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board for its partnership in this event.”

Some of the most common child safety seat installation mistakes include:
· Not using the right seat for a child’s size and age;
· Not placing the seat in the correct direction;
· Incorrect installation of the seat in relation to the vehicle’s air bags;
· Incorrect installation and tightness of the seat to the vehicle seat; and
· Using a defective or broken seat.

All attendees must schedule an appointment.
  For more information about the event and to schedule an appointment, contact McDonough’s district office by calling (516) 409-2070.
