McDONOUGH OFFERS IMPORTANT INFORMATION AS RESIDENTS PREPARE THEIR NEW YORK STATE TAXES

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) is reminding residents of important information as they prepare to file their New York State taxes. Many useful resources are available for residents through state government. In addition, new regulations have been put in place to protect consumers who hire tax preparers. The new regulations include the creation of a New York State Fraud Analysis and Selection Team (FAST), which detects large-scale tax preparer schemes.

“Tax season is upon us again and unfortunately, con men and others often prey upon unwitting residents,” said McDonough. “Fortunately, the Department of Taxation and Finance offers residents a bevy of resources to help prevent exploitation by tax preparers. I strongly encourage anyone who is considering hiring a tax preparer to review the rules and regulations and ensure their preparer meets New York State standards.”
