McDONOUGH ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS DURING HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS WEEK

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today joined Gov. Cuomo and legislators across the state to bring attention to Hurricane Preparedness Week. With the Atlantic hurricane season beginning in just a few days, McDonough is encouraging residents to make the necessary precautions for the upcoming season.

“It took many in our community a tremendous amount of time to rebound following the devastating impact of Superstorm Sandy,” said McDonough. “Slowly, local businesses reopened their doors and residents went back to work, revitalizing our communities. Unfortunately, we never know when another devastating storm will strike. That’s why I’m using Hurricane Preparedness Week to strongly encourage area residents to take the necessary steps now, so that when the time comes they’ll be ready for the worst.”

In 2012, Superstorm Sandy inflicted nearly $7 billion in damages to Long Island and killed 53 people in New York State. Today, many families, organizations and municipalities are still recovering from the damage.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. McDonough is also strongly encouraging residents to visit the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’s website for information on ways to prepare for hurricane season and other potential natural disasters.
