New Kosher Butcher Shop Opens on Merrick Road

Scott Wohlstetten and David Blum of Merrick open For Goodness Steaks.

Scott Wohlstetten has had a dream for 25 years and on Wednesday it finally came true.

Wohlstetten and David Blum of Merrick opened their kosher butcher shop, For Goodness Steaks, in Bellmore.

"I cannot be more excited," Wohlstetten said. "This has been in the making for many years."

"It feels fantastic to be open," Blum said.

For Goodness Steaks, located at 2514 Merrick Road, sells fresh kosher meats, as well as prepared foods, juices, spices and sauces.

"We also offer catering," Blum said.

The butcher shop is one of many new businesses on Merrick Road.

On Jan. 13, Long Island's first two-story Panera Bread will open across the street from the new Chocolate Works of Bellmore-Merrick, which opened in November.

In the coming weeks, Vanilla SkyDanny's Chinese Kitchen and Dessert City Cafe will open along the busy road.

On its opening day, a group of people stood in the shop admiring fresh meats and talking to Wohlstetten and Blum.

Jerry of Wantagh said that he is pleased that the "new and different" business opened.

"You can really see what you are getting and nothing is packaged," he said. "I am excited about it."

Blum said that the business has been receiving a great deal of positive feedback.

"We have been in the community for many years and we always had a need for a quality kosher butcher shop," he said.
