New Chinese Eatery Opens in Bellmore-Merrick

Danny's Chinese Kitchen is the second new business to open on Merrick Road this week.

Danny Antin, 29, worked in a Chinese restaurant all through high school and college. He said that he always wanted to open his own eatery and this week, he did just that.

Danny's Chinese Kitchen, located at 2370 Merrick Road, opened to the Bellmore-Merrick community on Wednesday afternoon.

Antin of Forest Hills said that he wants his business to be different than the average Chinese restaurant.

"Chinese food restaurants have a bad stigma and I want to turn that around," he said. "I am going to provide great customer service and a good, fresh product."

Danny's Chinese Kitchen offers traditional Chinese dishes such as fried rice, shrimp with broccoli and General Tso's Chicken, which Antin deems as the restaurant's specialty.

The eatery also offers dine-in and take out as well as delivery-even to Bellmore, Merrick and Wantagh train stations.

"People can call us from the train and someone will be waiting at their stop with their food," Antin said. "Customers have to place an order online on their phones or call 45 minutes before delivery."

The business, which opened in the former La Pink property that was damaged during during Hurricane Sandy, is one of many new storefronts that have opened along Merrick Road in the past few weeks.

The eatery is located across the street from Panera Bread, which opened on Monday, and next door to Chocolate Workswhich opened in late November. For Goodness Steaks, a kosher butcher shop, opened a few blocks down from Danny's Chinese Kitchen last week.

"I think these businesses are revitalizing this whole section of Merrick Road and it's very exciting," Antin said.

Antin said that he is looking forward to serving the Bellmore-Merrick community for many years to come.

"We want to give our customers a great experience as well as giving back and being active in the community," he said.
