Merrick Restaurant Reopens After Destroyed By Hurricane Sandy

AcQua, a waterfront restaurant that was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy last year, recently reopened it's doors to the Merrick community.

The Bayberry Avenue eatery, which is owned by brothers, Fabio and Francesco Giambanco, had a grand opening ceremony on Thursday.

"It feels like we were reborn again," Fabio Giambanco said.

After being open for about three months, the restaurant was completely destroyed by the natural disaster with nearly five feet of water gutting the dining room, kitchen, and electrical systems. The restaurant also sustained extensive structural damage.

"We had about 30 boats float into the restaurant," Francesco Giambanco said. "It was pretty bad."

The brothers said that they worked tirelessly to reopen their Italian eatery and are only looking forward at this point.

"To be open again is a relief, but it is nerve wrecking at the same time," Francesco Giambanco said.

The restaurant is located at 1944 Bayberry Ave. Call 623-4400 for more information.
