Storm Preparation Information

Nassau County, LIPA and National Grid prep for forecast thunderstorm and high winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch with the possibility of tornadoes for Thursday evening.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has activated the County’s Non-Emergency Hotline. Residents with non-life threatening emergencies can call 888-684-4274 for assistance. All those with life threatening emergencies should call 911.

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and National Grid are also preparing for the potential impact, as heavy rain, strong winds, flooding and frequent lightning can cause widespread damage and result in extended customer outages.

LIPA and National Grid will have 430 linemen and 120 tree trimmers available to address any outages, a press release stated.

LIPA encourages customers to visit their Storm Center at http://www.lipower.org/stormcenter ot call 1-800-490-0075 if they are without power.
