Three-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Merrick Avenue

Merrick Avenue is shut down at North Jerusalem Road Monday morning after a three-vehicle crash led to a fuel spill.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Midian Street around 6 a.m. According to the driver of a Red Baron truck that was involved in the crash, he was heading southbound on Merrick Avenue when a convertible swerved into oncoming traffic. In an an effort to avoid the convertible, the truck veered left and sideswiped the convertible. Also, the truck collided into a landrover.

The convertible had considerable damage, and the truck driver told Patch that the convertible's driver was yelling and screaming before being transported to a local hospital.

It's not known whether the Land Rover's driver was transported as well. Also, the extent of their injuries is not known either at this point. Police blocked off the scene with flares while they, along with Nassau County's Hazmat team, investigated the incident. There was no word on if there's suspected criminality.
