Outages Reported in Bellmore-Merrick

Strong winds and rain have brought power outages to Bellmore-Merrick, according to the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Storm Center Outage Map.

As of 8:35 a.m., 66 customers are without power in Bellmore, while 62 are down in Merrick. Only seven customers are powerless in North Bellmore, while another 41 are in the dark in North Merrick.

The most affected area sits just southeast of the Meadowbrook Road and Camp Avenue intersection, where 62 customers are out. The estimated time of restoration is 10 a.m.

Another 43 customers are out near the intersection of Bellmore Avenue and Sunrise Highway, and 41 customers are out near the northern tip of Meadowbrook Road. The estimated times of restoration are 11 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.

A High Wind Warning remains in effect until noon Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds of this magnitude could down trees and tree limbs, power lines and holiday decorations, and cause minor property damage. Numerous power outages will also be possible.

Rain is forecast for the remainder of Friday, with winds at 25 to 28 mph and gusts as high as 44 mph. The temperature is expected to dip to 33 Friday night.
