Mepham Increases Security Following Shooting Threat

Editor's Note: Editor's Note: The following email was sent to parents/guardians of students from Wellington C. Mepham High School from Principal Michael Harrington.

This email is an update from the email I sent out earlier this morning.

As you know, on Dec. 22, one of our students was approached randomly at the Roosevelt Field Mall by a 2002 graduate who made a series of angry and alarming comments about Mepham High School.

We immediately contacted the Nassau County Police who were able to identify the individual. I am grateful to the Nassau County Police for their immediate action.

The police took immediate action, arrested him and placed him in custody. While the Nassau County Police informed me that the individual has no access to weapons or ammunition and appears to show signs of being emotionally disturbed, we will be taking extra precautions at school.

With the assistance of the Nassau County Police, security will be increased at the building starting on Monday as classes resume. We have every expectation that Monday will be a normal school day and we will continue to work together to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for our students.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Mr. Harrington
