Broken Water Main Causes Merrick Street Collapse

Just minutes after residents on Cheryl Road finally regained their power in South Merrick, a broken water main caused the street to collapse.

"We finally have power but now no water on the block," Jacki Binder, who told Patch that the street collapsed right in front of her house. "The good news is that New York American Water came almost immediately and is fixing it, unlike with the electricity situation."

This took place just after 2 p.m. Friday, according to Binder.
