Superintendent John DeTommaso talked about the key components that make up his vision for the district.

Faculty and staff within the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District recently gathered for the annual Superintendent's Conference Day which provided key information about the district and the expectations for the upcoming academic year.

Superintendent John DeTommaso talked about the key components that make up his vision for the district which include: increased academic success for every student, necessary resources, professional development opportunities and support for all teachers, encouragement from parents and maximal educational opportunities for all students.

"Over the years, I have come to realize that the opening day of the school year brings many emotions, including the anxiety many of you are feeling right now,” DeTommaso said. “As we wrestle with the thought that new beginnings bring uncertainty and anxiety, be assured that they also represent the chance to once again be a powerful, positive influence on the lives that keep us company 10 months out of the year."

DeTommaso also spoke on the current news and implementation of the Annual Professional Performance Review, Common Core Learning Standards and state assessment results. He also discussed the importance of security in the school buildings and prominent communication with the community and facilities upgrades.

Schools within the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will open on Monday, Sept. 9.
