Nearby: Bellmore Man Wins $1,000,000 in Lottery Scratch Off Game

Andrew Roland of Bellmore never thought a scratch off game could change his life.

Andrew Roland, 28, of Bellmore never thought that one scratch off game could change his life.

Roland was presented with a $1,000,000 check at the new Lottery Service Center in Plainview on Thursday.

"I am elated," he said. "This is great."

On Oct. 21, Roland went to Sai Gas & Food in Farmingdale to meet his mother, Mary Roland, who was having car trouble.

"I had seven dollars on me and took five dollars and bought the 20X the Cash scratch-off game and told my son to keep the ticket," Mary Roland said.

When Andrew Roland scratched off his ticket, he realized he won big.

Roland chose to receive his prize as one lump sum payment of $840,000 with a net of $555,912.

On Thursday, Roland smiled holding his large check, which was presented to him by "Lottery Queen"  Yolanda Vega, with his family surrounding him.

He said that he will continue to work at his job at National Grid in Bellmore and that he will do a few things with his winnings.

"I am going to invest some and give some to my mother and my brothers and sister," he said.

And his biggest plan is to get engaged to Dawn, his girlfriend of three years.

"I want to surprise her with a nice engagement ring," he smiled.

Roland said that he will treat himself also.

"I am paying off all of my debt, so I don't have to worry," he said. "Having some savings in the bank will take a lot of the stress off."
