More Than 2,000 Remain Powerless in Merrick

Merokeans that are still in the dark are expected to be fully restored by Wednesday at 11 p.m., according to the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Storm Center Outage Map.

As of Monday at 6:40 a.m., 2,765 people in Merrick are still without power and 12,338 have been served.

All of the pockets of 1,000 or more outages have been handled, according to the map. There are still several areas where 50 or more customers are affected by electrical issues.

Areas that are still plagued by outages include south of Camp Avenue, between Meadowbrook Road and Merrick Avenue. Also experiencing powerless conditions is the area where Merrick Road and Meadowbrook Parkway meet.

There are also issues for customers between Merrick Avenue and Newbridge Road that are north of Camp Avenue.

As of Monday at 6:40 a.m., 278,372 customers are still without power island-wide, and that spans across 8,391 outages.

I went to the office of the Electric Inspector working with the county, they said there is a task force going door to door in Merrick to check for water damage to the electric in the house. If you are not home they said they are leaving a card with their number. Their phone number is 794-0400.
