Merrick Library Gears Up for Summer with Programs

Spend time at the library this summer with programs for kids, teens and adults.

Summer is the time that kids, teens and adults can cross books off of their reading wishlist.

The Merrick Library will be on hand all summer to help patrons of all ages to make the most of their free reading time. Here is a bit about what the library will be doing:

The library is hosting its first adult summer reading club with the theme Novel Destinations.  Similar to children's and teen's summer reading programs, adults are encouraged to read during the summer months and fill out a short form where they can comment on what they've read. With an international theme, adults are asked to read books set in other countries, books in translation or books by authors from another culture.  Sign-up is ongoing at the reference desk.

For teens (grades six through 12):

Teen summer reading club registration has begun at the Merrick Library. Participants submit simple book reviews to receive prizes and enter a weekly raffle. Sign up at the Library.

Teens may also join the Beach Bag Book Club.  This book club features several author events.  The next event will take place on June. Authors Jen Calonita, Elizabeth Eulberg, and Susane Colasanti, will present the books Prom & Prejudice and Something Like Fate.

For kids:

The summer reading theme this year is One World, Many Stories. The Merrick Library will be offering three reading clubs for kids this summer.

The Wee Wanderers is for babies age 12 to 35 months. Parents and children follow a map of activities and receive prizes.

The Island Hoppers group are three to six year olds who have books read to them at home and come to the library to record titles. Prizes are awarded for every five books read.

The Globetrotters are children entering grades two through seven. After reading a book, the title is recorded at the library and a prize is picked. Merrick School district residents may sign up for summer reading beginning June 22.
