Here are the Red Light Cameras in Merrick

Red light cameras are a hot topic in Merrick.

When you get notified of wrongdoing in the mail, they send you a photo of the infraction. If that's not enough, you get a link to watch the video as well.

The Nassau County Department of Traffic Safety released a list of the current red light cameras up around Merrick, which you can see below.

Here’s a look at 12 intersections with red light cameras:

  • Bellmore: Merrick Road and Bellmore Avenue
  • Bellmore: Newbridge Road and Bellmore Avenue
  • Merrick: Merrick Road and Merrick Avenue
  • Wantagh: Gardiners Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike
  • Wantagh: Sunrise Highway and Wantagh Avenue
  • Levittown: Wantagh Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike
  • Levittown: Wantagh Avenue and Old Jerusalem Road
  • East Meadow: Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue
  • East Meadow: Hempstead Turnpike and Newbridge Road
  • Massapequa: Merrick Road and Park Boulevard
  • Massapequa: Sunrise Highway and Unqua Lane
  • Massapequa: Hicksville Road and Merrick Road
Christopher M. Mistron, the coordinator of the department, said there are no new sites in the works at this time.

If you could prove to me that this actually REDUCES the amount of accidents at the intersections then I say leave them in place but if it fails to show a viable decrease of accidents then I say BE RID OF THE REVENUE PRODUCER!!!

These have nothing to do with safety. No tax increase from Mangano...not true, they will get their revenue with punitive taxes like the red light cameras...

Just another way for the county to make money. In actuality, it's dangerous by cutting the time the yellow light is on. It has been proven that by two seconds more, accidents are averted.
