Halloween Party Treats

Jazz up a Halloween party with themed food.

With the vibrant decorations, spooky costumes and overall laid back atmosphere, plenty of people love attending Halloween parties. Make the festival even more special and in tune with the theme by adding some holiday inspired food.

Head over to Waldbaums and pick up a package of Barber Foods chicken fingers Italian style. Cook them up, serve them with ketchup on the ends of them (plus some extra on the side for dipping!), and you'll have a set of bloody fingers to adorn the kitchen table.

Another favorite that my friend's grandmother used to make at her annual Halloween parties are "tortellini eyeballs." Almost any type of tortellini will work, but you want to make sure that the pieces aren't colored, since they need to serve as the white of an eyeball. After preparing the tortellini, place a black olive (pitless, of course!) inside of each one to finish the creepy creation.

Venture to Trader Joes for the guacamole kit, which you will certainly find is one of your best friends for Halloween parties. Why you ask? Well, the green hue of guacamole lends itself to plenty of ghoul inspired dishes. Add it to pita bread and call it a monster sandwich. Top off a Tex-Mex mixture with some guac and label it with a sign that says "Witch's Dip." Simply put the guacamole in a bowl with some chips nearby and voila! You have monster dip!

Who can forget a popular squishy, sugary favorite like gummy worms when it comes time for Halloween? Much like the guacamole, these gummy worms – which can be found at Waldbaums – stand alone at the party due to their distinct shape and style. However, you might want to try making a dirt pie with these gummy worms to take the theme up another notch.

Plenty of recipes for such a treat are available, including the "Dirt Pie with Worms," "Layers of Earth Dessert" and the "Halloween Mud Pie," so peruse through the recipes to see which one is your favorite.

Specialty drinks add even more flair to a Halloween soiree. Flavors such as spiced cider, apple juice, apple cranberry juice and cranberry harvest are certainly appropriate for a fall party. Juices served simply by themselves help to tone down the horror factor for extra squeamish guests or very young children.
