Community Meeting on Proposed Pawn Shop to be Held Thursday

The discussion will take place at North Merrick Public Library

Neighbors Against Pawn Shops (NAPS) along with the North and Central Merrick Civic Association, Legislator Dave Denenberg and Barclay Townhouse Attorney Marc Schneider will host a community meeting on Thursday to discuss the proposed pawn shop at 1391 Jerusalem Ave.

The pawn shop application is scheduled for a hearing on Sept. 12 before the Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals.

Residents are concerned that if Estate Pawn Brokers LTD opens on Jerusalem Avenue there will be a number of problems which include traffic and congestion, it could attract criminals to North Merrick, causing a potential increase in crime and it will alter the nature of the neighborhood.

The meeting will take place at North Merrick Public Library on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Do you think that a pawn shop would be a negative addition to the North Merrick community? Tell us in the comments below.
