Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Helga

Editor's Note: This article was written and submitted by Tara Conry.

Name: Helga
Case Number: 6104

Hi, there! My name is Helga and I am a playful, exuberant gal who is looking to find my forever home.

I make friends quickly with new people, even the most unusual of strangers, and love to be petted and massaged. I can be very playful, love toys, and will give them up easily for a tasty treat.

Because of my exuberance and lack of impulse control, I’d be better with tweens and up until I learn some manners. I’m a little uncomfortable with some handling (muzzle), but will tolerate it. I will readily share my resources with people.

I’m not good with other dogs and should be kept away from them. I have lived with another dog (Brody) in the past, and even him I have no use for.

I don't know any basic commands but I'm eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats, and I definitely need to learn to walk nicely on leash and not to be jumpy.

If you're interested in adopting Helga, contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220, email animalinfo@tohmail.org or stop by the shelter, which is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required innoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge.

Many loveable cats and dogs can also be taken home – at no charge – during the shelter’s “My Furry Valentine” pet adoption event on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
