5 Things You Should Know Today: MLK Day Edition

On Monday a man who fought for quality and justice for all will be celebrated and remembered. Here are five things you should know about Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Schools: In observance of the holiday, all schools within the Merrick, North Merrick and Bellmore-Merrick school districts will be closed.

Volunteer Projects: Martin Luther King Day is the National Day of Service. Residents are urged to volunteer in their community and plan their own projects.  

Libraries: Merrick and North Merrick libraries will be closed. 

Post Office: The U.S. Postal Service will be closed in observance of the holiday. 

Dreaming with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Children ages five and up will get the opportunity to investigate the life of Dr. King and use what they learn to produce a piece of artwork at the end of the session at Long Island's Children's Museum. The program will start at 11 a.m. and the admission fee is $3.
