Congratulations to North Merrick Schools!

The district is proud to announce that each of our schools is eligible to receive a $50,000 grant for a total of $150,000 from the New York State Education Department.

Only twenty-eight districts throughout the State were immediately eligible for this award and North Merrick is the only district which has all of its schools on the eligibility list.

This award is based upon our outstanding student performance on the New York State Assessments during a two-year period: 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.  Previously, the district had been notified that Camp Avenue, Harold D. Fayette, and Old Mill Road had earned the status as Reward schools based upon outstanding student performance on state assessments.   Only Reward schools were determined to be eligible for this particular grant.

The purpose of the grant is for the district’s schools to support and enhance best professional practices.  Upon completion of the application and final approval by the NY State Education Department, North Merrick’s schools will become model sites for lower performing districts.

“This recognition is made possible because of the dedication of a visionary Board of Education, an outstanding leadership team, a highly talented faculty and support staff, a caring and involved parent community, and the wonderful children of North Merrick,” stated Superintendent Feller when sharing this information at the March 18, 2014 Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee meeting.

As part of this grant, the district will send a team of educators to Albany for a two-day training session in May. Additional monies, set aside by the State Education Department, will fund all travel, training, and related expenses.

More information about our district’s involvement in this grant program will be forthcoming.

Once again, congratulations to the entire North Merrick community!
