Hands Across the Sand: Say No to LNG Island
Long Beach, 1 W Chester St, Long Beach, NY | Get Directions »
FREE
Local environmentalists are asking Long Islanders to join in this event to protect our coastlines, as "Long Island Says YES to Clean Energy and NO to LNG Island," by joining hands across the sand, rain or shine.
LNG Island is a proposed massive man-made island that the Atlantic Sea Island Group (ASIG) hopes to build to house imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the open ocean, 13 miles off Long Beach.
Participants are asked to arrive starting at 11 a.m. at Neptune Blvd. on the east end of the boardwalk in Long Beach, and join hands at 12 noon for fifteen minutes, leaving behind only their footprints in the sand.
Hands Across the Sand is a movement made of people of all walks of life and crosses political affiliations, promoted as "not about politics, but about protection" of America's coastlines, our oceans and our marine wildlife and fishing industries, including protecting all of the above from the devastating effects of offshore oil drilling.
