Since 1963, Temple Israel of South Merrick has catered to the local conservative Jewish community. The temple has a sisterhood and a men's club, and offers Hebrew School classes. The temple also participates in the Merrick Community Hebrew High School, with other area synagogues. It is part of the 'Mitzvah Project', where the temple teams with other area religious institutions to hand out bag lunches to the needy. Downstairs is the Wee Friends nursery school. Presiding over services is Rabbi Scott Hoffman.
