Bears for Fines: Teddy Bear Dive

Clear your fines and help a child in need at the same time! 

The North Merrick Library is collecting NEW Teddy Bears (10 – 14 inches) in lieu of fines for the non-profit organization, Hugs Across America, who will then distribute them to children who have experienced an illness or other tragedy.  There are no limits on the number, or amount of fines "paid". Library fees for lost, missing, or damaged items are not eligible. For North Merrick Patrons Only. This event is organized by the Teen Advisory Board. Interested in volunteering? Sorry, used bears, bears that are under 10 inches or without intact tags cannot be accepted.

The North Merrick Public Library initially opened as a storefront on Dec. 5, 1965 and opened at its current location on Oct. 3, 1966.  The library has more than 90,000 items available for loan and offers many databases and services online. Programs are offered for children, young adults and adults.  

Online services: Live homework help from a tutor, live librarian 24/7, downloadable audio books, databases (newspapers. magazines, reference sources, etc.)

Tom Witt is the library director.
