Red Mango Hosts Grand Opening Event
Merrick welcomes a new frozen yogurt shop with a fun-filled Saturday.
A frozen yogurt boom is sweeping across Long Island, and Merrick is no stranger to the craze.
The newest addition to the neighborhood is Red Mango in Merrick Plaza, which had its grand opening on Saturday.
Red Mango’s opening was an event that brought the whole community together. Local residents came down to see the new store, try the frozen treat and kids joined in at the event thanks to a fun bounce, dunk tank and cotton candy.

Store manager Danielle Quigley was happy to see members of the Merrick community come together at the new Red Mango location. She is well-versed in the Red Mango product and can enlighten patrons with information about why this yogurt is different from local competitors.
“Red Mango contains all natural ingredients and offers fresh fruit toppings that are prepared daily,” Quigley said. “There is a little bit of a tart taste to Red Mango yogurt because it is authentic yogurt and is not made with chemicals.”

A bonus feature of the Merrick Plaza Red Mango is that the yogurt is self-serve. Serving yourself is a new and wildly growing trend in frozen yogurt.
Why is serving yourself a better option? One reason, stated by Quigley, is serving size – you can decide how much yogurt you want in your cup, which is especially “easier for kids, since they don’t need such large sizes that are typically served at frozen yogurt shops that are not self-serve.”
The new Red Mango offers 10 different flavors at a time, and up to 70 topping selections, from fresh fruit to cereal to gourmet chocolate chips. Self-serve frozen yogurt is priced based on weight; after you complete your yogurt creation, the cup is placed on a scale and the price is calculated.

The grand opening of Red Mango in Merrick Plaza attracted a number of Merrick residents. Both adults and children sampled frozen yogurt, participated in activities and mingled with members of the Merrick community.
