Red Cross Says All Is Calm at Nassau Shelters

Three locations are at full capacity across Nassau.

Three of the more than two dozen shelters open across Nassau County are at full capacity as of Saturday night, according to the American Red Cross Long Island chapter.

According to Craig Cooper, public affairs supervisor for the American Red Cross on LI, John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview, Wantagh High School and Nassau Community College are the locations that are at capacity.

Cooper was at Nassau Community College until 8 p.m. Saturday night.

"There's over 1,000 people I am very proud and impressed with how the Red Cross is doing and how our partner agencies are doing," he said.

He also assured that they had ample supplies for evacuees.

"I think people are happy to be in a safe place," he added. "I was impressed with atmosphere of calm that we have there."
