N. Merrick Fire Department Called to Bathroom Fire

The two occupants in the home were able to get out safely.

The North Merrick Fire Department and Nassau County Police Department's 1st Precinct responded to a fire contained in the bathroom of a residence on Amsterdam Avenue at 11:59 a.m. in North Merrick on Tuesday.

The Roosevelt Fire Department also came to the scene for assistance.

"It was a small fire and it was contained to the bathroom," North Merrick Fire Chief James Allen said.

Allen told Patch that there was a woman and an infant inside the home when the fire struck and both were able to get out safely.

Although the fire didn't spread to other parts of the home, Allen explained that there was smoke damage as well as water damage to the residence.

The cause of the fire is pending an investigation by the fire marshal.
