Motorcycle Crash in Merrick Kills Freeport Man
Accident on Sunrise Highway early Sunday morning takes one life.
A Freeport man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Merrick early Sunday morning, police said.
Michael Galloway Sr., 44, was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway near the entrance of the Meadowbrook State Parkway at 12:35 a.m. when he lost control of his 2006 Yamaha, police said.
The motorcycle struck a guardrail and then a street sign, ejecting Galloway from the bike, police said.
Galloway was transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. of massive internal injuries. A police spokeswoman said Galloway had been traveling at a "high rate of speed" at the time of the crash. The speed limit in the area is 40 mph.
Galloway was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the accident, police said.
The motorcycle was impounded for safety tests.
