Kennedy Students Approached by Stranger

Two girls were approached by a Hispanic man in a black SUV on Thursday, school officials said.

Two female students of Kennedy High School were approached by man on Bellmore Avenue as they were returning from lunch Thursday afternoon.

According to Kennedy Principal Lorraine Poppe, the students were walking on Bellmore Avenue when they were approached by a Hispanic man in black BMW SUV with tinted windows. The girls said that the man is in his 30s, has a beard and a mustache, and was wearing a black shirt at the time.

The incident was reported to Nassau County Police. Poppe said that an announcement was made that advised students not to speak to strangers and to report suspicious people immediately.

"Please speak to your sons and daughters and reiterate the need to make good decisions," Poppe said in a statement on Thursday.

In January, there where two separate incidents in which students were approached or followed by a stranger in Bellmore.

A 12-year-old male student from Newbridge Road School was allegedly followed home from school by a person in a white van on Jan. 6. A few days before, a female student of Mepham High School was approached by a man in a white van who asked if she "wanted a ride" as she walked along Pea Pond Road.
