Jan. 2: Officer Shot, Deck the House Contest Finalist, Clerk Charged With Selling Alcohol to Minors

The five things you should know today.

 

1. It is officially 2012 and Patch would like to wish all of our readers a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

2. A Nassau County Police Officer was shot on Friday morning in the East Meadow Shopping Plaza near Hempstead Turnpike. The suspect was shot and killed by a second officer.

3. A North Merrick house was named a Patch Deck the House Contest National Finalist. Bellmore-Merrick could win $100,000 for the Merrick and Bellmore-Merrick Central High School School Districts, split evenly.

4. A Bellmore convenience clerk was charged with selling alcohol to a minor after an Underage Drinking Enforcement Detail conducted by the New York State Police on Friday. 

5 .Holms Service Station in Merrick will host a Credit Card Fundraiser. One cent per gallon will be given to Bellmore-Merrick Wellness Council for every gallon sold until Jan. 15. The organization will also receive $1 for each transaction paid for with an Exxon/Mobil personal or business credit card.
