Hempstead Town Notebook: Team Murray Inaugurated
A weekly look-in at news from around the Town of Hempstead.
Team Murray Takes Office
Kate Murray, the first woman elected as Town of Hempstead Supervisor, was inducted for her fifth term during a ceremony at Hempstead Town Hall on Jan. 3.
Murray focused her remarks at the inauguration on the township, the unity among neighbors and officials, and economic growth.
The town supervisor also detailed the initiatives she has undertaken for the future of the township. One of the coming projects to which Murray pointed out is the construction of a building to house the ANCHOR program for special needs children and adults. The recreation center will be named in memory of three Camp ANCHOR counselors who died in a tragic accident on their way to work.
Councilwoman Angie Cullin, Councilman James Darcy, Councilman Ed Ambrosino, Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin and Town Clerk Mark Bonilla were also inducted after being re-elected in the November 2011 election.

She's as bad as Tom "take my picture" Gulotta. I'm sure we'll get many large glossy expensive mailings trumpeting her amazing work with baby ducks. While Rome burns.

She and her "team" are indeed horrendous. They have the amazing ability to sell the electorate a bill of goods. Not only the TOH politicians, but the Nassau County Republicans as well. There was an editorial in Newsday yesterday about John Ciotti, the Legislator who was beaten in his district. He was appointed as chief in house counsel for Nassau University Medical Center, at a salary of $300K, which was $40K more than his predecessor. Healthcare law is also not his field, so there will be plenty of work to dole out to the party-connected law firms. All this after layoffs of workers at the hospital. A nice win for the Party and their benefactors, but just another loss for the taxpayers. Where is NIFA on all this?

@Robert Demarco, while I agree the appointment was for a Nassau COunty position and NIFA only oversees Nassau. This article is about Kate Murray and the Hempstead Township, which are different things. NIFA has no influence for townships in Nassau. Also Ciotti was not influenced by Hempstead or Murray.
If you reffered because they are all Republicans I guess I can see where you are coming from let us stick to the article at hand though. Hempstead has the highest debt rating in Nassau for municipalities nd has been rebuilding beaches, bulkheads and roads and has gotten union employees to contribute to healthcare. Also rebuilt parks like Julian Lane in Merrick and has gotten grants to improve merrick ave and merrick road. I do not agree with patronage or glossy mailings but she is ok

Hey Merrick7, just don't like her, her tactics, or the NC Republicans in general. We can agree to disagree on this.

James, I must tell you that we call the police regularly about the kids raising hell in our local park. They actually do come, and occasionally line the kids up and make their parents retieive them. Unfortunately, this does not stop the kids from coming back the next night, but the cops do try.

What did Kate Murray have to do with the Nassau County Hospital? Did you know Art Gianelli, who made the recommendation, was Tom Suozzi budget man? And he runs the hospital. Were you upset when he was appointed head of the hospital at 250,000 by Suozzi a few years ago, and then laid off a few 100 people then?

@Terry LOL awesome knowledgeable commentary. People think it is only Republicans with patronage and cheating the system. All politicians and especially NY Dem politicians do it.

Bicker.Bicker,Bicker,Look like it or not, Kate is back in. Let's move foward.send her your issues, and when she doesn't get back to you then you complain. We are over taxed, because they raised the property values, then jacked up the taxes, then re-accessed the propety values, (Much Lower) but never reduced our redicculous taxes. Yet, we loose our School Buses, cut childrens programs, cut teachers and hire more administration. We have he one of the highest paid Police forces, but when you call them, they are reluctent to come, or tell you, we can do anything to the kids that are vandalizing our neighborhoods and cars and properties, cause they're under age. In my day we had JD cards and our parents were held accountable for what we did. So if you did something wrong you knew you were going to be punished for it. Kate your in, with yourself and all the other politicans, take back Nassau, help our children, and clean up unjust salary's and unneccersary spending.
Good Luck, and Good night.

Sent Madam Supervisor my latest issue about the 'protest' at the Levittown movie theater. Was directed to Kate Murray's Helpline, never to hear back on the questions I asked. Just saying.

If the movie theater wants to offer dinner and a movie and sell alcohol, I do not see a problem. i went to a restaurant saturday night and there were plenty of kids and they sell alcohol. there is alot of competition for the entertainment dollar, and movies get streamed into our homes. the movie theaters need to reinvent themselves to stay viable. Sometimes I think that Murray does not like progress. Perhaps she would like that theater to become another empty space on the Turnpike.
