Grand Jury Indicts Sachs for Attempted Murder

Merrick man faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of stabbing an 8-year-old last month.

A grand jury indicted a Merrick man on an attempted murder charge Tuesday morning, stemming from the stabbing of an 8-year-old boy at a Dave & Buster's last month, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's Office. 

Evan Sachs, 23, was indicted on a charge of second-degree attemped murder, as well as two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Sachs faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Sachs, a 2005 Calhoun High School graduate, in a written statement to police admitted to stabbing the boy in the back five times on Oct. 8 while the child was out with his family at the Westbury location of the popular restaurant/arcade, according to court documents.

Sachs had been on several medications, some of which had been recently changed, at the time of stabbing, one of his attorneys said last month.

Sachs, who worked at as usher at Farmingdale movie theater, enrolled in Hofstra Law School in August 2009 before dropping out a few months later.
