First Floor Fire Sets Oakbrook Lane House Ablaze

The home has extensive damage to both the first and second floors.

A fire that started on the first floor of a home on Oakbrook Lane set the house up in flames on Friday afternoon.

The Merrick, North Merrick, North Bellmore, Bellmore and Freeport fire departments, along with the Nassau County Police, responded to the blaze and had it knocked down in about 15 minutes, said T.J. Fernandez, assistant chief, Merrick Fire Department.

According to Fernandez, it is thought that the fire started in the dryer, but the exact cause is still pending an investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.

"The fire was confined to the kitchen area and the room above the kitchen," Fernandez said. "There is smoke, fire and water damage in both of those areas."

Fernandez said that no one was home at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.

This is a breaking news story. Patch will have more updates as they become available.
