Eco-Friendly Cleaners: Kill Dirt, Not the Earth
How to live your best and save the planet without going far from home.
Having a green home is very important to living a healthy lifestyle.
So what you use to keep it clean is vital to keeping you and your family safe. I am adamant on using green, non-toxic products in my home and only buy the ones I have researched. You never know! There are so many great picks to choose from but you have to be careful. Here is a list of cleaners that you can trust that are "Green Certified."
Waldbaum's has a variety of cleaners that are good to use. Clorox has a brand called Green Works that seem pretty good. If you like to use all purpose wipes than try their Biodegradable Cleaning Wipes. You get 62 for $5.50 and they are made with 99 percent natural plant based ingredients. The wipes themselves are created from 100 percent wood-based fibers so that helps to compost properly. You can also try their all purpose cleaner and glass cleaner as well as the laundry detergent which is $10 for 45 ounces.
Method brand has a variety of products to choose from. Their wood cleaner in almond is non-toxic, biodegradable and the nozzle is designed to spread more with less use. For $6 you are getting your money's worth.
Waldbaum's also carries their all surface cleaner and glass cleaner that are both under $5. These are non-toxic cleaners you should definitely try. If you have a lot of stainless steel in your home pick up their Streak-Free Clean and Protect cleaner to give it a nice shine without streaking.
CVS carries two items that are worth checking out. I recommend the Shadow Lake Pure Castile Soap because you can use it on anything. Castile soap has been used for years and is trusted by many. It contains real organic vegetable and herbal essential oils and no animal fats. In addition, its chemical-free, biodegradable and is not tested on animals. So its cruelty-free as well. At $7 a bottle, you can't go wrong.
I also found Spring Again Cleaning Strength Vinegar Citrus Essence. It's made from 98 percent natural ingredients and is highly concentrated so you will get a lot of use out of it. Priced at $3 for 12 ounces, it's worth a shot.
Trader Joe's is always a store you can trust to have green products. Their Multi-Purpose Cleaner at $3 is made with essential oils, has a recyclable container and is not tested on animals. I have used this before and it's very good. Their Super Amazing Reusable Kitchen Cloth is great too. For only $4 you get two 14 by 10 inch towels that will last longer and help you use paper less. They are made from 100 percent Viscose which is earth friendly.
Another product I highly recommend are the Pop-Up Sponges. They come in a pack of 12 and literally last all year. I bought my pack so long ago I can't even remember. Made from natural vegetable cellulose, they are big and soft and clean very well.
So there are a good amount of green cleaners to choose from. I suggest you shop a little bit smarter and check out what other stores carry in your area. A few other brands to keep an eye out for are J.R. Watkins, Mrs. Meyers, Ecover, Earth Friendly Products and Seventh Generation. These are the ones I use in my home and they have done a great job at keeping it clean, safe and smelling good. Keep those three things in mind when you are shopping and you should have no problem. Happy Cleaning!
